2021 VR Women’s Summit: Sold! When and How to Sell Your Baby with Jennifer Frankenstein-Harris and Michelle Hodges

Building your vacation rental company is like raising a child. You nurture and grow something that takes all the time, energy, and passion that you have. At some point, you know it is time to “let it go.” After negotiating three separate purchase contracts, Great Ocean Condos was sold to Village Realty Holdings in November 2020; and in 2021, Meyer Vacation Rentals sold to Vacasa. Jennifer Frankenstein-Harris and Michelle Hodges will walk through the ins and outs of negotiations, valuations, and heart palpitations. There is life outside of ownership!

Though she had no experience in the “rental world,” Jennifer Frankenstein-Harris was very business-minded when she began Great Ocean Condos and Homes. Applying past work experiences, years of travel, and a high standard of excellence to managing her own vacation rental property, it wasn’t long before she began to see a 100% increase in her condo’s annual rental income. Jennifer soon realized that she was better equipped to manage her property than her complex’s on-site office. After spending months helping establish the Rental Corporation at her complex, Jennifer had owners standing in line asking for help handling their rentals. Now, she has Great Ocean Condos and Homes, and her online booking system is the only of its kind in NSB.

Michelle Hodges is the President of SH Enterprises, which is the umbrella company for the companies of Century 21 Meyer Real Estate and Starr Textile Services, commercial laundry, and textile rental business serving customers in Alabama, Florida, Mississippi, and Louisiana. Michelle began her career at Meyer Real Estate in the summer of 2006 after graduating from Rollins College in Winter Park, FL. While in college, Michelle gained both experience and a passion for the Hospitality Industry as an intern with both Walt Disney World Resorts and the Orlando/Orange County Convention and Visitor’s Bureau. Upon returning to the Alabama Gulf Coast after college, Michelle became actively involved in the community and served on the boards of the South Baldwin Chamber of Commerce, the South Baldwin Chamber Foundation,the Alabama Gulf Coast Area Chamber of Commerce, and the Baldwin County Education Coalition.
